Games Development Project - Baldur's Gate 3 Companion Creation, Sorcerer Teifling

This is a piece I have created for my University, Games Development Project. For this we had to identify a problem within games and try to fix it. For mine I found that side character often become forgettable within games, my aim for this project was to pick a game and create a memorable, unique character. I decided to pick Baldurs Gate 3 as the game to add to because of the wide creative freedom and unique fantasy setting.
To achieve this I first started by identifying what classes haven’t been used for Companions I found Sorcerer was one of them. I then found that 2/6 of the origin companions look very human like and for a fantasy game I wanted to focus on bringing in some more creature/fantasy aesthic. So I decided to make the companion a Teifling to focus on the fantasy aspect more.
I also thought about bringing in some more diversity to the game. After some research and look into the games companions I made my character to be of African ethnicity as well as being Deaf so I could explore a creative designs for hearing aids.
Whilst I wanted to bring in ethnicity diversity I also wanted to keep that fantasy look more so I made her be a light red/infernal Teifling and focused on creating accurate ethnic features through lots of research. I also focused on bringing in some tradiontal African aspects through the accessories and bead style as well as adding traditional styled Patterns on the clothing.

For the development for this project I started with a block out - High Poly sculpt - Low Poly retopology - Unwrapping + texturing - rigging and posing which I used Motion capture for and finally set ups in Unreal Engine. I made the High Poly using Marvelous Designer and Zbrush and 3ds Max. For the Retopology, Hair cards I used Maya (GS Curve tool for hair) for texturing I used Substance Painter. For Rigging I used Maya. For shaders and render set ups I used Unreal Engine.
